Vicksburg, MS

We drove to Madison, MS on Wednesday and spent one night at Timberlake Campground on the Ross-Barnett Reservoir. Met up with Connie and she’s coming to spend the weekend in Vicksburg with us. :)

Thursday we drove to Vicksburg, MS. Got a spot at the Ameristar Casino RV Park. Then we headed out to explore. Connie’s been here several times, so she’s a great tour guide. We started by having lunch at The Tomato Place. A small little produce stand that has evolved into a lunch cafe & store…packed with jams, jellies, hats, and dozens of other items. I had Tomato Pie with purple hull peas & sweet potato fries, John had his standard cheeseburger & fries, and Connie had the BLT & sweet potato fries….Food was WONDERFUL and we took leftovers home.

Then we headed to the Casino to try our Luck

The casino sits on The Beautiful Mississippi River

No One had any great winnings so we called it a day.

Scruffy was excited to be having a Slumber Party with his Aunt Connie.

Friday was spent at the Vicksburg Military Park… A 16 mile tour through the Battlefield Park. Here’s a slide show of the photos. The monuments were gorgeous. We had to get out of the car and hike back into a field to see the Kentucky monument, but finding John Breckinridge next to the KY memorial was a treat. The USS Cairo, that was sunk in 1862 & brought up in 1964, is one of the amazing displays there. I’m inserting these as a photo album since there’s so many.

We have plans to hit the Farmers Market tomorrow morning then tour a Haunted Old Mansion….Stay Tuned! :)
