We just signed the Hiring & Housing Agreements for our Summer job in Skagway, Alaska! The first Alaska job we had applied for was at a Wildlife Refuge in Tok, AK. We waited for several months, but got word a couple weeks ago that we were not selected for that position. Apparently the Universe was once again working in our favor…. this position is really a better job than the first one was. We’ll be working for a company that operates retail gift shops in one of the major Cruise Ship ports in Skagway, AK. We’ll be in a RV park with all the other workers they bring in for the tourist season. The pay is good and there’s a travel allowance and end of season bonus. We’ll be there May – Sept. Skagway is in the Inside Passage of Alaska in the Southeast corner, just West of British Columbia
As far as the winter job we’re at…..IT’S WONDERFUL! We’re having a great time here. Only one of us is required to work for our site here, so I went looking for a part-time job. I didn’t have any luck with a CNA position, so I decided to go for a Seasonal Retail job. I got hired by Ulta (Cosmetics) as a seasonal cashier. Of course, I love makeup & skincare so it’s great fun for me. The only issue has been getting my back used to being on my feet for 5-6 hours at a time. I’ve been doing my Yoga or Pilates almost every day to help with that, and it’s getting better every day. The store manager & employees are great to work with and the discount makes shopping fun too ~ LOL!
The RV Resort is busy with activities so there’s always something to get involved in and we’ve made a lot of new friends. Phoebe is a Social Butterfly…she loves visiting with all the other dogs when she’s out for a walk. Scruffy, on the other hand, still doesn’t like other dogs…he has to be guided away from any others when we’re out walking. Other than dogs we have a few resident owls that hang around here…..they are Burrowing Owls. This little guy has been sitting on the railing of one of the Park Model Homes all afternoon.
He has 2 legs, he just had one tucked up today…showing off his balancing ability. Usually he hangs out down by the Dog Walk area so he can keep any eye on the canine residents. :)
Anyway, just wanted to give a quick update on what’s going on and let everyone know that we’ll be heading North when we leave here. The plan is to try for a position at a campground in South Georgia or Northern Florida for next Fall/Winter season.

That is such exciting news. Sounds like you landed a really great gig up in Alaska. See you next month in AZ.
