We drove down to Yuma, AZ on Thursday for a long weekend. We haven’t been anywhere since we parked in Arizona City on Oct 7th, so it was fun to get back on the road. We planned to meet up with Bill & Jan and Jan’s sister Sherry & husband Dave at the campground on Friday.
We parked and took off for Los Algodones Mexico. The border is about 15 miles from our RV park. We parked in the lot and walked across the border….no one checked us or even said “Welcome to Mexico” ~ LOL!
This town caters to old Americans…it’s Pharmacies, Dentists, & Optical shops. Americans come here in droves for the cheap dental work & prescription meds. We took advantage of a little of both. It’s amazing that we’re so ripped off by our healthcare system in the US. Anyway here’s some street shots of the town.
Coming back into the US is a bit more involved. We waited in line for 45 minutes on Friday, our 2nd trip over, to get back. Passports or Passport cards are now required. They check the bags of drugs and as long as they aren’t controlled substances there’s no problem. We only had Blood Pressure meds & John’s inhalers. We just want to have a little extra stash since we’ll be in Alaska this summer and won’t have easy access to our pharmacy. The waiting line to cross the border at least has a cover for shade & benches to sit on.
Friday when we got back to the RV park, Bill, Jan, Dave & Sherry had arrived. We had a few drinks & visited. Bill & Jan are friends we met at the Escapees Escapade in Sedalia, MO last May.
Saturday morning we met for breakfast & Jim & Sandi drove down from Quartzite…more Escapees friends from last May.
Front is Sandi & Jim, then Sherry & Dave, Jan & Bill, Me & John
After breakfast we went to the Yuma Territorial Prison & the Gathering of the Gunfighters. There were great costumes and lots of things for sale. We toured the prison museum and prison then enjoyed the great weather.
We’ll head back to Arizona City tomorrow morning. It was a fun weekend.
