We left Livingston, TX on Wednesday, April 20th to start our trip North. We drove up to Mt Pleasant, TX and met up with Tracy for lunch. We been Internet friends for several years but had never met in person. Had a wonderful lunch and visited like old friends.
We parked for the night at the Arkansas Welcome Center Rest Stop. They allow 24 hour stops there. We settled in for the night, but woke up at 3:00 am to terrible thunderstorms.
The next morning it poured rain on us for about the first 45 minutes on the road then it cleared up. We drove up to Batesville, AR to meet up with Francis & JoAnn for lunch. It was wonderful to see them again. They're just in Arkansas getting doctor's check ups, and will be heading back out to New Mexico for the summer.
By the time we arrived, JoAnn had already arranged for us to park overnight at the local VFW. They even had a free electric & water hook up.
We spent the following night at a rest area in Missouri. Lots of storms around and St Louis got hit with tornadoes.
On Friday the 23rd, we made it to S. Beloit, IL and parked for the night at a Flying J Truck Stop. KC & Sherry came down and we had dinner together. It was wonderful to get to see them again. Fortunately, we'll be close to them for the summer, so we can get together again while we're in Wisconsin.
On Saturday, the 24th we drove the final 32 miles to Fort Atkinson.
It's great working with George & Carol again! We've been out together on some dinner & shopping trips. They took us into Janesville when we got here and gave us the Grand Tour. They even took us to a couple local grocery stores that they found stock lots of organic produce & meat. :)
We've been busy learning our summer jobs. I'm in the office doing reservations, check in's, store sales, etc. John's working outside doing grounds maintenance, landscaping, propane refills, sewer pump outs, trash pick up at the sites, and anything else that needs done.
We work with a good crew of folks and it looks like it's going to be a very enjoyable summer. I'm already in charge of hosting the first Employee Fun Night on May 31st.
Anyone driving through Southern Wisconsin this summer, be sure to stop in and visit us....we may even arrange for a visit from Yogi while you're here. :)
