We’ve been working the same Gate Guard job since last May 24th, so it’s definitely time for a break.
We left May 1st and drove a whole 77 miles up to Hondo, TX to meet up with Francis & JoAnn Jackson. We worked with them on our first campground job, in Arizona 5 years ago. Haven’t seen them for a couple years, so it was great to get together and spend a couple days catching up.
They have friends that have a permanent lot at the Hondo Escapees Co-Op park, so we went out to meet them. James & Maryann were so nice & invited us to go the clubhouse for the park’s 27th Birthday Party.
They had sandwiches & Cake & Ice Cream. We visited for a while and since James & MaryAnn had been Gate Guards last winter, it was almost like they were family.
We left Hondo, TX on May 3rd and drove to Fort Stockton, TX. They have what used to be the world’s largest Roadrunner.
The next day we drove to the Escapees Park in Deming, NM. The dogs enjoyed the fenced dog park and being able to run loose in grass.
Lucy loved being able to run and chase her ball.
This rig was parked next to us. Unfortunately, he never off-loaded the jeep, so we didn’t see how that works. What a way to travel!
On May 5th we drove to Tucson, AZ. we spent 2 nights at the Western Way RV Resort, a beautiful park just 5 minutes from our friend Karen. We met Karen the year we worked in Skagway, Alaska. Karen came by and we walked to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner and beer.
Karen is a Trained Egoscue Therapist & was our instructor in Posture Alignment classes at the gym in Skagway, Alaska. We’ve both been having some back problems, so we went for a full consult and got a customized exercise regimen. Here’s John during his eval and instruction.
We both feel much better and enjoyed our time with Karen. She made a wonderful Sweet Potato Soup & Salad dinner for us and we enjoyed an evening of wine and friendship…Love Her To Pieces!
On May 7th we drove up to Apache Junction, just East of Phoenix. we parked at Santa Fe RV Park where Jim & Sandie are parked. Jim & Sandie started their Full-Time RV life the same time we did. We became online friends first, then met in person at the Escapees Rally in 2009.
They’ve decided to permanently park their big 5th wheel, and bought a small travel trailer for their Summer trip north to Montana.
Lucy wasn’t shy about introducing herself.
We went to lunch with Jim & Sandie, at The Handlebar Pub & Grill. Found them on the FoodTripping app…Craft beer pub with a menu of grass fed local meats and local organic produce. Outstanding Burgers and a White Chocolate Ale that rates up there as one of the best beers I’ve ever had.
We went by Desert Hills Enterprises to see Pat at work. Turns out they did all the cabinet work in the Clubhouse of the RV Park where we’re staying.
We had the RV washed, to get the Texas dirt off of it. This is how John likes to wash the Rig. If you’re in this area, AZ Extreme Wash does a great job on washes.
Saturday we drove out to Glendale, AZ to visit with Ken & Sherry. Hard to believe it’s been 4 years since we saw them. We grilled burgers and caught up on each other’s lives.
Sunday we went to Pat & Myra’s for lunch. We took the dogs and they enjoyed meeting Raven & ShuShu. Hannah even calmed down and quit barking, after she got used to the place.
Here’s Pat & Myra, in their front yard, with the beautiful Superstition Mountains in the background.
Pat’s Chicken Coop
We got a dozen eggs…blue eggs!
Love this area!

Sending a Toast to Karen!
Hannah trying to relax, but Lucy was picking on her
Raven was pretty worn out after dealing with 3 intruders all afternoon.
It’s been a wonderful trip so far. Every time I come back to Arizona, I fall in Love with it again. Hopefully, our next visit will be longer and more relaxed, but we’re so glad we got the chance to visit & reconnect with some of our treasured friends.
Today is a day to do laundry, a little cleaning and rest up before we head on to Las Vegas. Can’t wait to get there and see Justin when he flies in on Friday!
