We had to have Scruffy put to sleep Tuesday night.
The visiting vet saw him last Thursday and gave him medicine for his breathing and joint pain. It hasn't helped, he was gasping for breath at the slightest movement. When we got home Monday night he couldn't even stand. The vet met us at the office and they gave him a shot and kept him there for observation. We took him breakfast Tuesday morning and he wasn't much better. At lunch he was able to stand on his own but his breathing was still very labored. After work Tuesday night, he was still having so much trouble breathing that we made the decision to put him out of his pain.
Several of the other guys helped John dig a grave for him & we buried him in the woods near our RV park.
Scruffy found me in Oct 1999, when he was living his life running the streets of Conyers, GA with a pack of dogs. He quickly learned that living with me was much easier than street life, and he discovered the best place to be was in someone's lap.
When we took off in the motorhome, Scruffy became King of the Road. He adored traveling and exploring new places.
Laying on the couch with a perfect view as we drive.
On Lake Superior
At the Grand Canyon
Tolerating the ridiculous mud boots I made him wear in Missouri
Near Niagara Falls, NY
And checking out the big Pine Trees in Yosemite
Rest in Peace, My Precious Scruffy.

I am so sorry. It's hard to lose someone you love so much.
