I wanted to wish all our friends and family a Happy Thanksgiving!
We made it through our first 40 hour week at Amazon and are pretty tired and a little sore. We have today off...then we'll begin a 55 hour week tomorrow! We had signed up for voluntary Overtime for this Monday, then they announced Mandatory OT for Tuesday! We don't really have to do the Mandatory OT...Workampers are exempt...but we came here for the money, so we decided to go ahead and try it. We will get a bit of a break because Thanksgiving day is only a 5 hour shift. They close down during the day so everyone can have dinner with family, then we'll go in at 10:00 pm and work the last half of our normal shift.
The job isn't hard, but it is physically demanding. We're "STOWERS" so our job is to pick up carts of products and "stow" them into storage bins. We roll these carts up and down aisles of shelving looking for open spots to store product...everything from dog biscuits to brake pads. There's a lot of squatting and bending but sometimes you get lucky. Last night I had tons of 4gb flash drives to stow...and every one had to be scanned separately...so I spent most of the night sitting on my step stool scanning and placing about 75 per bin. We get a 30 min lunch and two 15 min breaks per shift. Breaks are scheduled so everyone takes breaks at the same time...sometimes we feel like a herd of cows walking to and from the break room ~ LOL!
I've never done any kind of factory or warehouse work, so it's interesting for me. They're very well organized and really seem to be focused on keeping everyone happy & productive. I enjoy the routine & structure of the place...us Taurus folks are like that. :) I wouldn't want to make a career of it, but it's good for a few weeks and the money will help us stash a little aside for the winter months as we don't have a job yet for Feb, Mar & Apr.
There are a couple people here that we worked with in Alaska. Maxine works night shift, in a different department, but we see her on breaks. We ran into Bob & Dee last night at shift change, they're on days and at a different RV park, so we haven't had a chance to visit with them yet.
We have a lady at the RV park that comes and walks the dogs around 9:00 pm every night. She's been a great help and we're lucky to have her.
All In All, we're doing well...but working hard. :)

We received news of the death of Mary last week. Mary was the Skagway Outlet Store Manager & John's boss while we were in Skagway. Mary was found dead, of an apparent suicide, in her apartment in Amsterdam.
We're both so sad and hurt. Mary was known for her adventuresome spirit...she traveled all over the world in the winters and came back to Skagway in the summers to work. She was a wonderful part of the Corrington Team. We feel very lucky that we had the chance to know and work with her.
We Send Our Deepest Condolences to her Friends & Family.

Happy Thanksgiving to both of you. Nice to hear Amazon is a good place to work, but it sounds like a lot of hours, too many for me. That's awful about the suicide, she looks too young.
So sorry to hear about your friend. Life can become overwhelming at times but it's sad to think that there is no hope whatsoever.
The job sounds rather physically demanding. And I remember going to an IRS service center where everybody took their break at the same time. It was so weird - the bell would ring and everybody would leave and the bell would ring and everybody would be back again.
At least we don't have bells to tell us when to take a break ~ LOL!
We do have group exercise sessions twice per shift though. At the beginning of shift we have a stand up meeting for announcements then we all do a series of stretches for neck, hands, and back. We do it again after our lunch break...it's kind of weird but it does feel good. It's been an interesting experience. :)
