Over Halfway Through Our Summer…

Hard to believe we’re on the downhill side of the summer in Alaska…sometimes hard to believe it’s summer ~ LOL!  We rarely go over 60 degrees during the day so it’s felt more like winter to me.

Last week our friend Bud arrived to hike the Chilkoot Trail.  This is Bud’s 3rd hike up that trail.  He arrived 3 days before the rest of the hikers and stayed with us till the night before the hike.   If you remember, Bud is the guy we spent a week with in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last year.

We spent one afternoon out at the flats in Dyea and explored the Slide cemetery.

Sheri drove from NC, towing her Scamp trailer, and picked up her brother @ the airport in Whitehorse.  Julie & Val drove from Canada, Laurie & Vickie flew in & Gary came in on the ferry from Juneau.  The only ones we had met before were Bud & Sheri, it was great to get to visit with them again and meet the others.

Sunday Night they all stayed at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost.  A wonderful Bed & Breakfast located just down from the trailhead.

We went up Monday morning & had breakfast with them before they took off on the 5 day hike.

On Friday we met the train that brought them back from Bennett, British Columbia.  Once they had all showered we had fun hearing all the stories of the hike.  They had a cook-your-own dinner at the lodge.

I’m so glad I was never tempted to do that hike, especially after hearing the stories!  A great accomplishment for those that hiked it, but definitely not something I would attempt.  They all left this morning, but we had a great time visiting with them.

We’re all doing well and still loving Alaska.  Scruffy’s age is really showing …. the vet will be here from Juneau this week, so we have an appointment for him to see Scruffy on Thursday.  We still have no job lined up for the Fall/Winter season…we’ll let everyone know when we have an idea where we’ll be going.

Wonderful to read your new post. I miss hearing from you. But I know you've got to be busy. Hopefully we'll get to see you this winter somewhere. Check in once in awhile so we know everything is okay. (that is the "mother" in me)
