All About Family

We spent the weekend playing around Kentucky and spending time with some family I hadn't seen in ages....there's still more here I need to visit, if we can work it in.

Friday after a stop at the RV repair shop we found out we needed to wait until Monday or Tuesday for a part to come in to repair our steps. So, we took off for Bardstown, KY. We spent Friday night in My Old Kentucky Home campground then got up early and went sightseeing. We hit the local Farmers Market and bought a bag of fresh Yellow squash & Zucchini for a whooping $1.45! Then we went to the Civil War Museum and the Women of the Civil War Museum, both very impressive museums for this little town.

Since the road we took to Bardstown was never intended for a Class A RV, we decided to take a different route out of there. We headed up to Louisville and got to pop in and visit with my 2nd cousin, Jo Ann. Had a wonderful visit with her.

Sunday we headed down to Beattyville to bury my Dad's ashes in the Family cemetery.

I had ordered the grave marker from the VA and had it shipped to my cousin Tom's house in Georgetown. Tom and his wife Susan and a couple of their friends met us at the "Famous" Purple Cow Restaurant in Beattyville.

Then we went out to the cemetery

Here's John & Tom hauling the gravemarker up the hill

and digging the grave

Here we are admiring our work
Susan, Tom, Me & John
Tom is now my closest living relative on my Dad's side of the family

Beattyville's a neat little town

The scenery is spectacular in this area of KY.

We stopped at Natural Bridge State Park and had to ride the skylift up to see Natural Bridge

It was a short hike from the skylift drop off point over to a walk across Natural Bridge. Here's a view from the top
Then we hiked over to another point so we could look back and see where we had been

Then we rode back down....
Now we're parked back a campground in Berea until the part comes in to get our steps repaired..
