Dawson Creek

We left Williams Lake on Saturday morning, Apr 17th.  Saturday was a long day of driving and not as much scenery.  We did 314 miles, and only because we couldn’t find a good spot to stop.  We ended up parked in a rest area alongside the road.  It was overlooking the Pine River Valley.

Here’s Scruffy taking in the view

and Phoebe helping John & Randy plan the day’s driving strategy.

On Sunday we only went 83 miles and stopped in Dawson Creek to look for a campground.  The first two we stopped at had no sites with water & sewer, since the ground is still frozen.  We ended up at the Northern Lights RV park…they have water, sewer, WiFi, and a few TV channels on cable.  It’s more expensive than we  wanted, for the shape of the campground, but it’s the only thing available here.  They’re charging $35/day = $34.91 US.  We’ve decided to spend 2 nights here, to give the guys a break from driving.

We drove into Dawson Creek to check out the town.  This is the beginning of the Alaska Highway.  The center of town has the “0” mile marker.

They have an alley with the backs & side of the buildings all done in retro art murals.  Here’s some photos in an album

Anyway, we’re taking it easy today and getting back on the road tomorrow…to actually begin the Alaskan Highway drive.  We still have about 1026 miles to go, and the most stressful driving area is ahead of us…with even less options on campgrounds.

I’ll update when I can.
