Yosemite Park

Saturday night Tracy & her daughter and friend met us at the casino and we all had dinner together.  Tracy has been one of our Internet friends for about 5 years, but we had never met  in person.  We had a great visit.

We decided to pack up everything and drive to Yosemite on Sunday.  When we got there we found out the road to the Sequoia grove was closed due to icy weather and it was a 2 mile hike in to see the trees…we decided to forego that adventure.   Scruffy did get to see some pretty big Pines and left his mark in several places.  Phoebe enjoyed exploring the forest too.

We stopped to check in at a campground.  All sites are dry camping so no water or electric hookups.  We had plenty of water in the tank so we figured it would be fine for one night.  When I looked at the weather report posted it showed 100% chance of precipitation & I asked the ranger about it.  She advised us that the higher elevations would definitely get snow that night.  She ended up changing us to a different campground so that we could drive out of the park without going up  above 4000’ in elevation.  So, we drove another hour to a different campground.   The park is gorgeous!

We had no cell phone coverage or Internet access in the park.  John & I played cards and went to bed early.  At 2:00 am I woke up to strange noises and was convinced there was a bear on the roof....Looked outside and everything was white!  John said it was just snow hitting the roof, we were parked under trees and hunks of snow kept falling and hitting us.  Somehow, I managed to fall back to sleep…. and woke up to over a foot of snow!   :(

After 2 hours of work by John…and me sitting inside bitching about the cold…..We decided to try to drive out.  We took the car to the ranger station and they assured us the roads were clear enough to drive out to Hwy 140.  So we packed up and left.  We weren’t comfortable towing the car, so I drove it and followed John.

We finally got out of there and back to decent weather…and better scenery

We finally pulled in to the Famcamp at Travis AFB this evening, around 6:00pm.  It was a long, nerve-wreaking, day and we were glad to get parked and hooked up with all the comforts of home.  We plan to stay here for 3 nights and do a little exploring of the area.

That would be me too - sitting in the coach bitching about the cold and snow. However, that said, your pictures are beautiful! But that's the only place I want to see snow -in pictures. I guess that's why we haven't started north yet.
